FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 66° - 70° F Water Temp: 61° - 65° F
Starting to feel like fall is in the air, hints of color in some of the trees. The crappies are starting to bite well, we have been getting them up to 14" (remember the 10" min. size limit) we've caught them in 12-23' relating to deep natural wood structure. They are fun fish to catch they bite decisively , they clamp down on the jig and give a steady, hard pull straight down. We have caught them casting jigs , vertical jigging and on slip bobbers. Usually I know they are crappies by the spot we are fishing and there appearance on the sonar I don't set the hook as hard as for a walleye. On the subject of fish bites there was a whole day when I don't think I felt a single walleye bite. We caught quite a few walleyes but just felt weight on the line not the classic heavy thump. The rod hand, in my case left hand, tells the mood of the fish. We had one day last week in the morning, just felt the weight of the fish, by afternoon the fish turned on and you felt them all bite hard. Fished with a lot of fun people , can't mention them all, two brothers from Oklahoma, two other brothers one from Florida and one brothers two kids. Two brothers from Illinois who's father spent a lot of time on the TFF and brought them as kids, they called yesterday to thank me, we had a nice catch of walleyes and crappies, they had a hard time going home. Would like to thank Porky and Rosanne at Donner's Bay for taking care of the three guys from Illinois ( Mike, Jesse "the badger" and Ruben) who didn't find the bottled water in their cooler a fitting beverage for a shore lunch. Have had some good catches some of the stringer pictures were at lunch time. The customers with all the blue gills and other fish gave me a fish cleaning reprieve, after lunch we did catch and release, seven doz. crawlers that day. Good fishing to you looking forward to the fall walleye and musky bite. Jeff
