We've had a nice stretch of summer weather lately, had to dodge a few brief storms, but the weather has felt awful nice. The walleye fishing has been good most days however there have been days when they have been pretty negative for part of the day. On a recent morning trip we found the walleyes slow, we did keep three fish and released quite a few small ones. That afternoon I picked up son Jack and tested some spots I had marked a few days prior, along with two we found that day, we caught and released a dozen walleyes. If you read my posts you know Jack is a good fisherman. In order to level the playing field we both fished with St. Croix Legend extremes, he started out three to my none in the end we both caught six. When fishing with customers I want to get out fished, with Jack I am casting to all the right spots and start when the anchors hit the bottom.

I encourage customers to leave their rods at home, unless they have one they really like, for jigging rods I now have two extremes, a legend tournament and a couple of avids, along with a fleet of triumphs for slip bobbin and dead sticks. I just ordered 4 rods for musky fishing last week, I'm going to start in the fall. A lot of my customers aren't aware how close the St. Croix factory and retail store are when they're up here .The people working the shop are very knowledgeable and go the distance at explaining their products.

I have had the chance to fish with people from all over the country, yesterday husband and wife Jim and Sally from Missouri. They really enjoyed their lodging at Balsam Ridge and the fishing and tranquility of the TFF. We found the walleyes slow, caught a lot of small ones, only kept four but with a 15" sm, perch, bluegills and a few larger rock bass they went back to the cabin with a couple nice fish frys.

Had something really funny happen Sunday, I got a big fish on casting an 1/8 oz. jig and crawler, customer was standing ready with the net, holding the net waist high, a big smallmouth jumped out of the water, clearing the water by as high as I have ever seen one come out of the water ( a good 4') spit the jig in mid air and landed in the net. What a hoot!, 17-1/4" released.
Been fishing mostly deeper wood structure in the 12-20' range 1/8 oz. weedless jigs, crawlers and leeches. Catching some nice smallmouths on the same structure.
