FISHING REPORT 7/30/14 11:44 PM CST Conditions: Partly Sunny The water is staying high this summer, I'm guessing about 8" below full pool and the water temps are staying low, low 70's, the fish are biting well. Fished with a lot of nice people, too many to mention all names in a report, here is a brief recap of the fishing. Saturday 9 fish limit of walleyes from deeper water, nothing over 16" released other small fish some nice bluegills and perch, 12-18'some bobbers some casting 1/8 oz. jig. Sunday was big fish day. We started out in 12' of water and had some small walleyes then with the cold front, nice chop and dark skies we went shallow for the rest of the day. We had a 21-1/2" and 22" walleye and a 18-1/2" smallmouth. Every body of water is different, on lake Erie those are probably "good eaters" on the TFF those are fish to release, Steve and Zack felt the same way and were happy to release the fish. The biggest fish were caught in less then 5 fow relating to wood structure. Monday had the pleasure of fishing with three generations of fishermen/woman. We had a good mix of fish from mostly deeper wood structure 12-20' bobbers and vertical jigging over deeper hard bottom and wood structure. We kept only enough fish for their family fish fry, releasing most of our fish. Nine year old Stella had a lot of fun contributing more then her share to the family dinner. Yesterday we found a tough bite during the day, we did have an 18" walleye in shallow wood and another keeper, some nice blugills, released some sm.,10-12' rocks. Late in the day I think we were about to get into some active walleyes when the looming black skies drove us to the landing. I hovered out in front of the springstead landing watching the weather trying to decide on taking the safe bet and go home or picking up a friend in the horseshoe and going fishing. Fishing won, the black clouds missed us to the south. In a few hours of fishing we caught 13 walleyes working 12-14' of wood along river channels. I know the number because we had a friendly bet, he won with one more fish, my excuse: I did let him count rock bass( actually he argued I didn't specify the species)and I also fielded two phone calls during the competition. Nice to spend some time fishing with a friend although I wish the bite had been going better for the paying customers. Today I spent the day scouting, I think it was my first day in the boat alone since May, marked some nice spots. Picked up my son and two of his friends late in the day , tested some new spots and brought home a fish fry for my family.
