Today a 30mph wind and 15* quite a change from the weekend. Our annual Turtle Flambeau Flowage assoc. fisheree went well this weekend. Held at Donner's Bay we had a nice turnout, a helper was all the snowmobilers in the northwoods this weekend, many stopped by for a brat, hot dog and beverage. The travel conditions had changed radically in the last week with the warm weather melting a lot of the snow cover. Previously travel was difficult with anything other than a snowmobile, Saturday a person could have ridden a bicycle (mountain bike anyway) on most of the flowage. As one of the volunteers taking fish measurements I was impressed with the fish caught, we had nice fish in all categories, the warm weather had the crappies in particular on a good bite. Crappie fishing was best in the main river channel and the Bastine basin as well as around pine island and in the Sturgeon Bay landing area. Fishing was best in the 20-27' range both jigging and tip ups or downs as many people call them. Walleyes were best in the 10-15' range, tip ups and shiners. One more week of "game fish" then panfish only on northern lakes after close of gamefish. I forgot my camera, did take some nice pictures with cell phone but cell phone to lake link is beyond my current skill level. I know, my tech skills are an embarrassment, a redeeming factor are my abilities to read sonar units. Enjoy the rest of the ice season, keep abreast of ice conditions, not a lot of ice cover this year so things will change fast. Stay safe!
