FISHING REPORT 6/27/15 12:04 AM CST Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 66° - 70° F Water Temp: 66° - 70° F After a few days of a slow walleye bite, today with completely flat water and bright sunny skies the walleyes decided to bite. We fished walleyes for four hours caught 13, kept 8 between 13-17-1/2"along with some nice perch. We didn't catch any walleyes on bobbers ,they wanted a slow moving bait, we cast 1/8 oz. slow fall jigs into 15' of water with a half crawler. The fish bit fairly aggressively compared to the last few days. Had a nice shore lunch with my guests from Ohio ( 3 generations) then went musky fishing, one follow on a bucktail and a hard hit on a shallow Bucher depth raider but no hook up. Shore lunches of perch and walleye have not been a problem but big catches of fish have not been the status quo the last couple weeks. Two possible factors? Erratic weather and may flys? I'll tell it in story form. June 11th I launched my boat, drove to Cry of The Loon to pick up Mike and Becky. The flat calm surface was covered with May fly skeletons (exoskeletons?) a double whammy. I scanned a few spots threw the buoy in, anchors out 3 bobber poles in, customers casting their jigging rods. I hooked up a fathead minnow and in 4 casts put two keepers in the live well. I thought to myself, mayflys smayflys were gonna catch a lot of fish today. Thinking there might be more fish where I was throwing, had Mike switch seats with me, no more active fish on that spot. The next few hours we worked good spots in the 12-15' range and came up with 2 nice perch and a few small released walleyes. Staring at the may fly carcasses floating on the water I was really feeling humbled by past comments on the dismissal of the adverse effect of mayfly hatches on the walleye bite.
