The fall walleye bite remains good, most days a lot of small fish, keeping nice eating size and releasing an occasional big fish. Sunday we had quite a thrill with two boats and a group of 7. Evan in my boat, fishing on his 11 th birthday. We were on a good fall walleye spot that surprisingly wasn't producing many fish. Often when this happens there is a reason. Evan found the reason, vertical jigging with an 1/8 oz. jig and fathead, his pole bent over. I helped direct the rod to try to keep the fish out of the motor but it was all him fighting the fish. The first time the fish came up I was lucky to have the walleye net in the right place and got the fish head first in the net. He caught the fish on a 7' med. lite St. Croix rod with 6lb. mono. We took some nice pictures and released the heavy 43" fish it had some beautiful markings. In the fall 25mph winds like yesterday aren't your friend when jigging. Taking a pounding catching some small fish I contemplated what to do next. We had a shore lunch planned and only one fish in the live well. I decided to chance a long ride in the big waves to fish some quiet water. It paid off for Bob, Fred and I, we found some nice fish and some pleasant fishing conditions. Some good musky fishing coming if anyone is interested.
