Some beautiful weather the last few days. The last couple weeks has seen some slow walleye fishing, with the mayfly hatches hopefully behind us the bite may be improving. The last few days we've caught walleyes in as little as 3' in weeds to as deep as 17' in deeper wood and a lot of other structure in between. Today I had two half day trips we caught a total of 13 walleyes, 9 keepers, hitting on all three live baits I've been taking: fatheads, leeches and crawlers. The smallmouth have been hitting aggressively if you are in the right places, we found them in 12' with wood and hard bottom. We finally caught some fish both walleyes and smallmouth on leeches today also some smallmouth on the deadstick (leeches) which until today had been pretty still . Occasionally getting some nice perch and gills mainly in stumps in the 5-8' range.
Happy to spend my time on a body of water mostly void of jets skis, tubers, etc. but it was nice to see the festive mood of people enjoying those activities in safe areas to do it yesterday. The last couple of weeks very few people out fishing, yesterday more pontoon boats than fishing boats.
Happy 4th of July!
