Comments on past comments or questions. Big-fisherman thank you for the compliments, if I had the time, would take you up on invite to fish "the big lake". MadTownFishFinder, camp site selection would be based on the weather forecast, your canoeing skills and what kind of experience you are looking for. You mentioned young kids, I might opt for a site close to springstead or fisherman's landing ,there aren't too many sites that you wouldn't be pleased with. Thinblueline, theft in the parking lot? Not trying to be disrespectful but you mentioned maybe selecting one with better lighting ,this is the north woods not wal mart, there is no lighting. A week ago after fishing for an hour, one of my customers remembered the box of weedless jigs they left next to the dock. We were in the middle of the big water,  I thought it was a waste of our time but I gladly drove back to the landing where he picked up his box of jigs, Several boats launched after we did, it is possible no body saw them but they were there, conservatively a few hundred dollars worth, more than I have in stock at any one time. My truck is unlocked, many times I forget to take the key out of the ignition, I borrowed someone jumper cables last week, also have a tool box, if you need anything in a clutch, just put it back.
Fishing report:
Walleye fishing has been fair to excellent mostly depending on your site selection, they have been biting well most days and more of the catch in the 15-17" range, on a short trip some of it is based on a good guess or maybe luck. Yesterday after guiding my fly fisherman I picked up a father and daughter, enjoying their stay at Donner's Bay, we fished 2 spots and caught 14 walleyes, a crappie and some nice perch. We fished in the rain for much of the almost 4 hours, I will never be the first one to say let's quit, 6th grader Alexis wanted to keep fishing, her dad and I were ready to hang it up. All walleyes on minnows in 6-10' of water with snaggy wood bottom.
There are smallmouth in shallow, yesterday and today had an annual trip with father and son fly fisherman we did better yesterday boating 22 all on poppers, we were happy with that, it is a much slower method than crank baits or tube jigs etc. Today we used some time for walleye fishing but still landed 10 smb all on poppers. The  best color was yellow, a crucial secret to success was a long pause (5-8) seconds the fish hit during the pause. There are also blue gills in shallow now. Yesterday while fly fishing we found blue gills and spent about an hour having fun with them, we kept 8 of the bigger males for a fish fry, released the rest. When fly fishing I just run the boat but couldn't resist putting a third of a crawler on a 1/16 oz. jig and catching some.Right now is some of the best fishing of the year we are catching pike, walleyes, perch, blue gills and smb.
My dad talked me into buying a Minnkota ulterra bow mount foe my new boat, I've always used a transom mount but for guiding fly fisherman, bass guys or muskie fisherman it is an awesome motor.
