FISHING REPORT
10/12/15 9:22 AM CST
Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 66° - 70° F Water Temp: 51° - 55° F
We have spent most of our time walleye fishing since last report, it is that time of year. The last couple of days we caught a lot of walleye casting 1/8 jigs in 12-20' of water over mostly boulders and firm sand bottom. Some of the bigger fish were caught on specific spots with deeper wood structure in the 16' range. There are big numbers of 11" walleyes to be caught and released before you get a 13-14" fish which is a lot of what we have been putting in the live well. There are other fish still biting, yesterday after a morning of catching numbers of walleye we went after samllmouth and had some great action on them. We caught an 18" in 16' wood then went shallower and caught both numbers and quality fish with another real thick 18" and several over 15" many in the 13-14" range. They hit both minnows and crawlers on bobbers , deadsticking and casting jigs. We released all the smallmouth. After that I asked husband and wife Rob and Edie if they wanted to see if the blue gills were still biting, I hadn't tried for them in a couple of weeks. We had time for one more spot and found nice sized gills in 12', catching them on bobbers and crawlers. I fish with a lot of people in the course of the year, some very good fisherman. In the world of hunting and fishing there is some competition, some people won't admit there is someone better then they, after two days of fishing with Rob I would have to say he maybe might possibly have better touch than I do. They brought their own rods, Rob a St. Croix legend tournament and Edie an Avid (pink of course).Another incredible day sunny and 70's hard to come off the water.
The fish weren't jumping in the boat on all days, we fished a day and a half on the north end (customers request) and found the fishing slow. We fished a lot of areas that at this time of the year usually have numbers of fish occupying the water and found few. Thinking they aren't there yet because of the slow cool down of water temps.
Side note: I probably wouldn't try launching a bigger boat on a bunk trailer at sturgeon bay landing. On thursday I had to get down to my underwear and wade in to push my boat off the trailer ( no photos). Friday we paid the 5 bucks and launched at the county park by the falls, nice launch and pretty ride down the river.
The colors are still beautiful, enjoy the TFF.
