FISHING REPORT 8/14/15 11:22 PM CST Conditions: Sunny The last couple weeks there has been some very slow walleye fishing on the TFF. Other species of fish have been picking up the slack for the walleyes. We have been taking minnows and getting some crappies on minnows but just as many on half crawlers, have been seeing some under the 10" min. but most are around 11" and up to 14". Catching some nice perch but lately more blue gills then perch. They are fun to catch and good eating, can't tell you how many times I've had the net out thinking a keeper walleye, to see a 8" gill come up, they do fight! Have been getting some walleyes on the deeper wood structure we've been fishing but until today they were low in numbers. When trying for smallmouth we've been finding them in the same places as the last reports, humps that were 10-12' that are now 8-10' (the water is dropping pretty fast). We've had quite a few 19-19-3/4" this year but this week our first 20". Still doing good on the deadsticks with a leech when after the bass, that is in fact how we got the 20". Fished with a lot of good people every day, too many to give personal accounts of, Family all the way from Texas 2 days this week, today father and son with ties to the flowage since 1928, thanks for the great stories Greg. I'll tell about a good bite day. I prepped Greg and son Kyle on the slow walleye bite as we idled away from the landing today, at the same time mentally gathering an itinerary of the first three spots I wanted to fish (contrary to my wife's opinion there are a few things I can multi- task on). First spot within a few minutes a 16" walleye casting a 1/8 oz. jig and half crawler, beautiful gold colored, I thought it must be a fluke. Having caught SMB on the river channel wood I put out a dead stick with a leech, we caught a 15" walleye, then a big crappie casting an 1/8oz. jig and half crawler, a half hour into the day, shore lunch secured. WoW! that's really lucky! Really guys, the fishing has been pretty slow, shore lunches have been perch, gills, crappies and not a lot of walleyes. Long story short, we fished around 12 spots( mostly wood in the 12-18' range), kept a limit of 9 walleyes, 5 big crappies, (one 14"), 11 blue gills, one perch and some rock bass . Probably the best catch in the last few weeks. Looking up at the green led light on my kitchen stove I see it's past my bed time, long day tomorrow two trips, another 12 hours on the water, it's a great job! even with the tough August bite I can't wait to get to work in the morning.
