FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Sunny
The bite yesterday with the overcast skies and nice chop from the south wind provided a great day on the water for some bigger walleyes and smallmouth . In a half day guide trip we had a good catch of fish. We did best on mid lake humps with rock and wood structure. We caught fish on both leeches and crawlers. If you want to catch extra bass don't forget the dead stick with a leech.
As good as the bite was yesterday it was tough today, we fished cabbage in 4' to cribs in 16' and a lot of structure in between. I fish hard all day but with the completely flat water and bright skies it seemed like an exercise in futility. We have had a lot of nice catches on days like these but it wasn't in the cards for us today.
It may sound funny but I do believe the customers who are interested in learning how to fish the flowage, learn more on a day like today. With all the time not catching fish I was able to show my customer Jeff a lot of different type of structure and how it appears on the sonar along with all the walleyes that wouldn't bite.
I often get asked,"what do you do on a day when you have a shore lunch planned and you don't catch any fish". Being superstitious I am knocking on my wooden kitchen table as I say this: It doesn't happen.
Today I am quite sure was the lightest catch of fish since I started guiding 5 years ago, we ate 3 perch,1 crappie,1 pike,1 walleye and 2 rock bass.Fish go a long way , I often don't eat fish every day, my three guests could eat all but one piece which I finished, pike, my favorite. We did catch a few small released walleyes after lunch but all in all tough day on the pond.
HAPPY 4 th !!!
